Software development process explains how a software product can be developed. This process can also be called as software development life cycle. Organizations may also create a Software Engineering Process Group (SEPG), which is mainly focused on process improvement.
Following are the steps involved in software development process:
Planning:
Important task in development of a software is to know the requirements of the clients. General requirements are gathered from the client and an analysis of the scope of the development is determined and clearly stated. This is called as the scope document.
Implementation:
Next step is the implementation of the plans developed in the above step, in this step software engineers actually code for the program.
Testing:
This is an important step in the development process of a software and it ensures that defects are recognized as early as possible.
Documenting:
Internal design of the software is documented for the purpose of future maintenance and enhancement. And this is done throughout the development process.
Deployment:
After code is tested appropriately, software which is developed is approved for release and sold or distributed into a production environment.
Software Training:
It is very important for the software developers to train the people in the organization in which the software is to be deployed to have better results. If the training is not provided the software will be not useful and the time, effort, money spent on developing the will go in vain.
Maintaining:
Software has to be Maintained and improved according to the changing needs of the organization. This can be done by adding codes to the original software. If the labor cost of the maintenance phase exceeds 25 percent then it is better for the management for considering the option of rebuilding the software.
The above are the steps which are involved in the software development process.
