ID, FD, PA, And SA Fans Usage In Manufacturing

Basically, the industrial blowers are installed to enable a flow of huge volume of air/gas towards various systems. That is a key element of many manufacturing processes. These are the most important of the blowers used in manufacturing:

  • Induced draft (ID) fans
  • Forced draft (FD) fans
  • Primary air (PA) fans
  • Secondary air (SA) fans

The following points will give a clear idea about the significance of these fans in the manufacturing sector.

  • The varied kinds of industrial fans greatly contribute to the smooth completion of processes like handling of materials, combustion and air conditioning.
  • Both the ID and FD fans, which are categorized under the “centrifugal fans,” are extensively used in industries such as chemical, metals, power generation and glass.
  • Generally, the induced draft and forced draft fans are curved in the backward direction. Due to this, the fans are extremely pivotal for applications where high levels of pressure are involved.
  • The ID and FD fans are one of the most crucial elements of any thermal power plant. The ID fans collect the hot flue gases that are there within the system and direct them into the outside atmosphere. Bringing in the air present in the external environment inside the system is an important operation of a thermal plant, as well. And, the FD fans are used for this very purpose.
  • The basic purpose of the ID and FD fans is different. Yet; both these blowers ensure that the air within the system remains balanced at all times. Likewise, they make sure that the efficiency of the process of combustion gets enhanced.
  • In a thermal power plant, it is very essential that the coal that has been pulverized is properly transported to the furnace. This objective is achieved with the presence of the PA fans. The primary air fans generate enormous pressure necessary to thrust the pulverized coal into the furnace. These fans operate in such a way that temperature inside the furnace is constantly maintained at a specified level. The temperature fluctuations are avoided.
  • The SA fans are installed to facilitate a rise in the amount of air flow, whenever the situation demands. There are few instances where the air provided by the primary fan just falls short of completing the process of combustion. It is at this point that the secondary air fans come into play. The SA fans supply the extra air, which ensures that the combustion process gets completed, without any hassles.
  • Though the functions of the above four types of fans are different, there are still few things that are common in each of them. These blowers make certain that working ambience is always safe; the staff has no issues in working for extended durations.

The fans quickly remove all the noxious fumes and pollutants from inside the plant and hence safeguard the health of workers. In the same way, when these blowers are there, the quantity of the power consumed by the manufacturing unit is under control. The goal of energy efficiency can easily be realized.

Every manufacturing unit is entailed to first be very clear about its precise needs. It is only then that the most appropriate types of industrial fans can be selected. Installing the wrong varieties of fans only creates more problems for the manufacturer. That is something that no one wants!
